Abstract

During excavations of the “Uhle platform” (M. Uhle site F), at the foot of Huaca de la Luna, Moche, Peru, a fragment of an anthropomorphic stone statue was discovered. This fragment showed traces of thermic shocks and had been defaced by several violent blows. This exceptional find points to one of the main functions of the Uhle platform, especially during the first period until the beginning of the R. Larco Hoyle Moche III phase. Its actual state, as well as various material evidence, suggest social unrest at the end of the occupation of the Moche site.
