Letter from the Editor

With this first issue of Volume 34, we are implementing two changes at Ñawpa Pacha. First, the Editorial Board has implemented a new policy whereby we will publish two classes of manuscript: articles and reports. Articles are usually 8,000–10,000 words in length (including abstracts, text, tables, notes, acknowledgments, and references cited) and are often extensively illustrated. Research reports are up to 2,500–3,000 words long, with a maximum of seven figures and three tables. Our long-standing policy of publishing only articles meant that we turned away shorter manuscripts containing new and exciting archaeological data. We decided that this unnecessarily deprived you, the reader, from accessing well-documented reports on exciting data in Andean archaeology, and thus we now publish articles and reports.

Second, I have stepped down as editor of Ñawpa Pacha. Effective June 1, 2014 the new editor is Dr. Charles Stanish. I served as editor for three years, and I have enjoyed it. I worked extensively during the journal's move from Left Coast Press to Maney Publishing, a transition now fully implemented. I would like to thank Liz Rosindale and Saoirse Milotte at Maney Publishing for all their hard work to incorporate and produce Ñawpa Pacha. I have enjoyed working with authors from the international community of Andean studies, and it has been satisfying to shepherd manuscripts into richly-illustrated publications. Unfortunately, increased responsibilities at my university, and other teaching, research, and writing obligations, meant that I found it very difficult to keep up with the demands of the editorship.

As you all know, Chip Stanish is a pre-eminent scholar, director of the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology, University of California, Los Angeles, and a well-respected Andeanist. He has written such seminal studies as Ancient Andean Political Economy (University of Texas Press, 1992), Ancient Titicaca: The Evolution of Complex Society in Southern Peru and Northern Bolivia (University of California Press, Berkeley, 2003), and numerous scholarly articles, as well as edited many scholarly volumes. Effective June 1, 2014 please send all manuscripts and editorial queries to Dr. Charles Stanish at [email protected].

Finally, I wish to thank the members of the Institute of Andean Studies, the Editorial Board of Ñawpa Pacha, the talented people at Maney Publishing, and the readership for your support during my tenure as editor. Ñawpa Pacha: Journal of Andean Archaeology is a unique and vibrant publication, and I know its commitment to scholarly excellence will continue for decades to come.
