Abstract
The present paper has examined the most common mathematical methods for obtaining both the activation energy and the pre-exponential factor from 'raw' experimental data on combustion and pyrolysis of solid fuels. Four commonly used integral methods and a very popular differential method have been scrutinised. The integral method based on the Senum and Yang approximation which utilises a non-linear regression has provided both kinetic parameters within 0˙5% error from the exact values. The method is exact, simple and therefore powerful.
