A technique for prediction of carbonitride precipitation in high strength low alloy steels

Pages 523-526 | Published online: 19 Jul 2013

Abstract

The precipitation of carbonitrides is an important phenomenon influencing the properties of steels such as the creep resistant and high strength low alloy steels. The composition and mass of the precipitate formed are predicted using the thermodynamic properties of the alloy solution and precipitates. Conventional methods usually involve solving a set of non-linear equations for the unknowns present in order to predict the precipitation behaviour. The present work discusses an alternative method of predicting this phenomenon. It is free from the difficulties of the conventional method and can be applied to any complex system where precipitation occurs.
