Abstract

Nanocrystalline Ni and Ni–Fe alloy coatings were synthesised by brush plating using soluble anode, and the corrosion characteristics of nanocrystalline Ni, Ni–5·84%Fe and Ni–13·49%Fe were investigated by soak method and electrochemical polarisation method respectively. The nanocrystalline Ni–Fe alloy coatings showed higher hardness and smaller grain size than that of Ni coating. Ni–13·49%Fe alloy coating exhibited better corrosion resistance in 3·5 wt‐% NaCl solution than the nanocrystalline Ni coating and the Ni–5·84%Fe coating, which indicats that the corrosion resistant of nanocrystalline Ni coating can be improved by adding appropriate amount of Fe.
