Abstract
An investigation has been made of the isothermal formation of martensite in an Fe-Ni-Cr alloy. The effect of Cr on the transformation behaviour of Fe-Ni alloys is similar to that of Mn, and the theories developed to explain isothermal formation of martensite in Fe-Ni-Mn alloys are equally applicable to the Fe-Ni-Cr alloy studied. The difference in kinetics can be explained in terms of small variations in the elastic parameters.
