Optimization of properties of precipitation - hardening tin-magnesium bronze

Pages 457-461 | Published online: 19 Jul 2013

Abstract

Experiments to determine the effect of magnesium content, cold working, and precipitation heat-treatment time on the mechanical and electrical properties of a wrought ∼5wt-% tin, ∼lwt-% magnesium bronze are described. It was shown that hardness and electrical conductivity may be individually optimized to give values, after 80% cold reduction, of ∼300HV at ∼39%IACS and ∼50%IACS at ∼280HV, and that a magnesium content of 1.1wt-% will ensure that these properties are regularly achieved.
