Thermal stability and crystallization of metallic glasses

Pages 133-141 | Published online: 19 Jul 2013

Abstract

Investigations into the annealing behaviour of metallic glasses are reviewed. The low-temperature structural relaxations and the temper-embrittlement phenomena are discussed briefly. The author then reviews current knowledge on the crystallization behaviour of glassy metals, including the compositional dependence of stability against crystallization, crystallization morphologies, crystallization kinetics, and the effect of external constraints on crystallization. Some areas for future research are suggested.
