Abstract
The geology and prospectivity of an area north of Baltasound on the island of Unst, Shetland is reviewed. Reconnaissance investigations in the 1980s proved that high concentrations of platinum group elements exist at several locations, the best intersections being located at Cliff where platinum and palladium both exceed 100 ppm. The structures elucidated and the mineralisation mechanisms deduced are summarised. Previous exploration programmes are described and recommendations for future exploration given.
