Occupational Health Challenges and Success in Developing Countries: A South African Perspective

Pages 119-124 | Published online: 20 Nov 2013

Abstract

Implementation of occupational health and safety practices in South Africa is impeded not only by lack of funds expertise, and technologic sophistication but also by worker apathy and employer ignorance, such that there is no pressure on government even to enforce existing regulations. The author explores the reasons for the problem, describes sporadic successes that have been achieved, and offers practical suggestions for improvement.
