Abstract
There are many unknowns in the pathways of UV signal transduction, notably in the early stages where intervention may be most successful. In particular, there is no satisfactory molecular explanation for the significant proportion of melanomas (compared with basal and squamous cell carcinoma) found on less regularly exposed skin sites such as the back and upper leg. There is a need for systematic and comprehensive approaches to identifying all of the genes and pathways that are activated or inhibited by solar UV in relevant cell culture models.
