Corrosion mechanism of anode steel claw in high temperature cryolite molten salt and corrosion resistance technology

Abstract

The high-temperature corrosion mechanism of anode steel claw in cryolite molten atmosphere is analysed. A new corrosion prevention technology method is investigated in deducing the concentrations of the corrosive components by generating volatile product in corrosive interface. It achieves the aim through persuasion instead of blocking. Multi-component permeating protective layer was prepared on surface of steel claw materials by powder embedding method. Specimens were exposed in molten cryolite atmosphere at 900°C, which simulate electrolytic aluminium production environment of anode steel claw. The results show that multi-component permeating samples have more excellent corrosion resistance properties comparing with untreated samples.
