Pages 415-417 | Published online: 18 Jul 2013

Abstract

Yb3+ doped BaGd2(MoO4)4 crystal with dimension &phis20 × 25 mm has been grown using the Czochralski method. The absorption and emission spectra have been investigated at room temperature. The strongest absorption peak at 977 nm has a full width at half maximum of 6 nm, and the absorption cross-section σ ab is 3·3 × 10−20 cm2 at 977 nm. The broad emission band with a peak at 1005 nm has a full width at half maximum of 45 nm. The fluorescence lifetime is 0·59 ms. It may be regarded as a potential solid state laser material for the diode laser pumping.
