Abstract

The hot deformation behaviour of 316LN‐Nb stainless steel was investigated at 900–1250°C and strain rates of 0·005–5 s–1 by hot compression tests on a Gleeble‐1500D thermo‐mechanical simulator. The constitutive equation of 316LN‐Nb steel was determined by calculating the stress exponent, activation energy and Zemer‐Hollomon parameter. The hot processing map was developed based on dynamic material model theories and Prasad instability criterion. Dynamic recrystallisation under different deformation conditions has been analysed. The results showed that the larger power dissipation rate is located at 1050–1200°C and strain rate of approximately 0·05 s−1.
