Abstract

In order to obtain complex three‐dimensional trimming line and evaluate flanging formability of automobile covering panels at the early design stage of process planning and trimming dies, an integration system was built based on the improved inverse approach. To guarantee the computational accuracy, the membrane and discrete Kirchhoff quadrilateral shell combined element model was used to consider bending effect and a more accurate numerical model of boundary conditions was also adopted. The system has a seamless interaction between the computer aided design and computer aided engineering applications, which was integrated into parameterised environment to completely avoid the workload of data transferring between different softwares and iterative building of the analysis model. Eventually two examples were applied to verify the feasibility and validity of the proposed integration system.
