Abstract

The texture (preferred crystallographic orientations) affects physical, mechanical properties and deep drawability of sheet metal. In this research work, the texture development and deep drawability (plastic strain ratios) of AA 5083 aluminium alloy sheets after asymmetric rolling and subsequent annealing were investigated. The plastic strain ratios of asymmetrically rolled and subsequent annealed samples were 5% lower and |Δr| was 20% lower than the initial AA 5083 Al alloy sheets. These could be attributed to weak textures of γ‐fibre texture ND//<111> component and other texture components through asymmetric rolling in AA 5083 Al sheet.
