Steel strip laminate - high performance hybrid: Developments and recent applications

Pages 77-80 | Published online: 19 Jul 2013

Abstract

Steel strip laminate is a patented hybrid between glass fibre reinforced epoxy resin and ultra high strength steel. When these two materials are combined, they form a product that combines the high corrosion resistance of glass reinforced resin pipe with the high pressure performance of steel pipe. Various aspects of this new technology are presented and discussed, including: the manufacturing process, in particular methods of forming and bonding the steel; testing of joints and fittings; repair techniques; design calculations; and a case history relating to the oil industry.
