Conducting polymer coatings in electrochemical technology Part 1 – Synthesis and fundamental aspects

Pages 237-244 | Published online: 18 Jul 2013

Abstract

Conducting polymers are materials which combine the electronic characteristics of metals with the engineering properties of polymers. Poly(pyrrole) (PPy), poly(thiophene) (PTh) and poly(aniline) (PAn) are common examples of conducting polymers and can be produced either chemically or electrochemically from their respective heterocycles. This review describes the properties and synthesis of such materials.
