Alloy design, microstructural characteristics, strength and toughness properties of Fe-based laser-clad layer

Pages 142-144 | Published online: 12 Nov 2013

Abstract

Remanufacturing technologies such as submerged arc welding and thermal spraying are conventionally used to extend the service lives, and to improve performance of, engineering components. In the case of components such as the cold rolling mill work-roll, which are required to operate under conditions of high load and impact, these technologies have severe limitations. Laser cladding offers an attractive alternative. However, problems exist due to cracks arising during the cladding process and difficulties in ensuring a tough layer which limit the practical application of laser cladding technology.
