The 2014 Hong Kong Congress, IIC's 25th biennial international conference, is the first IIC event to be held in a sub-tropical region which brings its own, very particular issues for preventive conservation. This set of preprints shows the wide range of papers and posters that will facilitate the bringing together of a wide variety of views and dialogues to address the various areas of work, study and analysis involved in the conservation of East Asian art and heritage.
Since its first international congress held in Rome in 1961, IIC has encouraged the participation of conservation professionals worldwide and it is a measure of its success in achieving this aim that the authors of the papers and posters in this volume come from 20 different countries/areas.
IIC has led the professional globally since its foundation in 1950. Its initiatives in widening participation and accessibility include the additional digital publication of its flagship journal, Studies in Conservation, as well as fully digital publication of News in Conservation.
IIC relies for this excellence on dedicated professionals, those who serve as Editors, and Members of the Technical and Organising Committees of our biennial Congresses, those who are Editors for Studies in Conservation, those who serve on the Council to take on a wide range of responsibilities. They all give of their valuable time voluntarily and IIC welcomes the opportunity to recognise their crucial contributions.
The papers and poster summaries in this volume have been selected and peer reviewed by members of the Technical Committee. These preprints are the first to be presented in a fully bilingual format and will form a digital supplement to IIC's bi-monthly journal Studies in Conservation, published by Maney Publishing. Some of the papers in this volume will be published at greater length in a volume of postprints.
2014香港會議，是國際文物修護學會第二十五屆雙年國際會議，也是本學會首次於亞熱帶地區舉辦此項盛事，並就亞熱帶氣候為文物保存帶來的獨特問題作出探討。本文集的論文及海報題材廣泛，為修護東亞藝術及文化遺產各方面的工作、研究與分析，匯集真知灼見和引發交流討論。
自會議首次於1961年假羅馬舉辦以來，國際文物修護學會便一直鼓勵全球修護專業人員積極參與。文集的論文與海報作者共來自二十個不同的國家和地區，足證本會在此目標上取得斐然成績。
國際文物修護學會自1950年創會以來，一直引領著世界各地的修護專業。為擴闊會員參與及接觸文物修護嶄新知識的機會，本會特別推出多項新猷，包括為旗艦期刊《文物修護文集》增設電子版以及以全數碼形式發行《文物修護通訊》。
國際文物修護學會的卓越成就，有賴各位全情投入的專業人員同心協力，肩負起各種職責，他們包括為雙年會議擔任編輯、評審委員會和籌備委員會的成員，還有《文物修護文集》的編輯，以及理事會的理事。他們均以義務形式投入自己的寶貴時間，國際文物修護學會謹此衷心表揚他們各位的重大貢獻。
本文集中的論文及海報摘要均經過評審委員會成員甄選及同儕評審，更是首次以全雙語形式刊登，並將以國際文物修護學會雙月期刊《文物修護文集》的數碼增訂本形式由Maney Publishing發行。本文集中有部份論文的詳文，將會輯錄成會議論文後刊本，稍後出版。
