Residual Creep Life in Low Alloy Ferritic Steels

Abstract

The problem of predicting the residual creep life of components in electricity generating plant is discussed. Parametric methods of predicting long-time creep life are considered and the reasons for their inadequacy are explained. The microstructure of the low alloy steels used in generating plant changes continuously during the service lifetime at high temperatures so that prediction methods must take this into account.

Current work on residual creep life predictions, which takes this factor into account, is described.

Résumé

On discute des problèmes associés à la prédiction de la résistance à la crique résiduelle de certaines pièces de groupes électrogènes. On discute d'abord des méthodes paramétriques de prédiction de la résistance à la crique et on explique pourquòi elles sont insatisfaisantes; c'est qu'elles ne tiennent pas compte de la nature évolutive de la microstructure des aciers bas alliage utilisés dans la fabrication d'équipement électrogène. On présente un projet de recherche sur la prédiction de la résistance à la crique résiduelle, présentement en cours, qui tient compte de ce facteur.
