Studies on the Removal of Harmful Elements During Sintering of Siderite Iron Ore

Abstract

Addition of small amounts of calcium and magnesium chlorides to the sinter charge of siderite iron ore, to minimise the percentages of harmful elements such as Pb, Zn, Cu, Sb and As was successfully performed. Remarkable removal of these elements was achieved during sintering. The produced sinter acquired good physical characters, like Iso tumbler index. The oxidation, desulphurization and reducibility of sinters were satisfactory. X-ray analysis and microscopic examinations indicated the nature and kind of minerals already present in sinters.

Résumé

On a, par l'addition de faibles quantités de chlorures de calcium et de magnésium à la charge lors du frittage d'un minerai de fer et de sidérite, réussi à minimiser les pourcentages d'éléments nocifs tels Pb, Zn, Cu, Sb et As. Pendant le frittage une élimination remarquable de ces éléments a été réalisée. Le produit fritté possède de bonnes caractéristiques physiques, surtout en ce qui a trait à sa résistance à l'abrasion (essais de chutes ISO). L'oxydation, la désulfuration et la réductibilité des produits frittés est satisfaisante. Des analyses par rayons X et des examens microscopiques indiquent la nature et le genre des minéraux présents dans les produits frittés.
