X-Ray Analysis of Ion-Plated TiN Coatings on High-Speed Steel

Abstract

A comprehensive study of various properties of as-deposited ion-plated TiN coatings on highspeed steel was carried out using X-ray diffraction line profile analysis. The mechanical and physical properties of these coatings were correlated with deposition process parameters. Results show that the mechanical and physical properties of TiN coatings are affected by process parameters and that lattice distortion produced by dislocations as well as by other crystal defects such as point defect clusters and interstitial nitrogen and argon atoms contribute to the residual stresses.

Résumé

Une étude détaillée des différentes propriétés de dépôts de TiN obtenus par placage ionique sur des aciers rapides, a été entreprise au moyen d'analyses de spectres de diffraction rayons-X. Les propriétés physiques et mécaniques de ces revétements ont été correlees aux paramètres du procédé de déposition. Les résultats montrent que les propriétés physiques et mécaniques des revêtements de TiN sont affectées par les paramètres due procédé et que les distorsions du réseau cristallin produites par les dislocations ainsi que les autres défauts cristallins comme les agglomérations de défauts ponctuels et les atomes interstitiels d'azote et d'argon, ont contribué aux contraintes résiduelles.
