Afterthoughts on Fragile Diplomacy: Meissen Porcelain for European Courts, c.1710–1763

Abstract

The opening remarks of the Fragile Diplomacy symposium have been refreshed and refashioned to provide a closing summation to this special issue of The Court Historian. The history of Meissen scholarship is considered, the basic findings of the exhibition distilled, some modest discoveries are noted and porcelain gift protocol is explained. A nod to the archival resources is a fitting postscript.
