Abstract
In the year 1645 the ship bearing the Pope's ambassador to the Confederation of Kilkenny was driven off its course by privateers and finally reached land in a remote harbour on the south shore of Kenmare Bay. Here his Excellency, ill and weary from the journey, was received with joy and given food and shelter by the local people. (My first lodging was a peasant's house, in which the cattle were also stabled, and there for two days I experienced not only recovery from illness but also great comfort.)
