New Glycol Methacrylate Embedding Procedure for Enzyme and Immunohistochemical Assessment of Tissue Response to Biomaterials

Pages 53-59 | Published online: 29 Nov 2013

Abstract

This paper introduces a new glycol methacrylate resin embedding procedure developed for large tissue specimens containing biomaterials. Modifications of a low toxicity GMA kit (Technovit 8100, Külzer) protocol, initially described for tissue samples not larger than 1 mm, included an infiltration step at −70°C and a curing phase at −20°C. These allowed polymerization of large blocks suitable for enzyme and immunohistochemistry to identify accurately inflammatory cells of the tissue response, implant in situ.
