Abstract
The phase equilibria and constitution of the Al-Fe-Si system are reviewed on the basis of the published literature. The complexity of this system has been the source of numerous contradictory reports. For the purpose of review the more reliable publications are accepted to obtain a self-consistent description of the system in terms of 18 ternary invariant liquidus reactions, and 6 ternary intermetallic phases. Lattice spacings and crystal structures are reviewed. It is shown that direct information on equilibria below the liquidus is scanty, and the solid-phase relationships between the ternary phases remain largely conjectual.
