Abstract
The literature on the phase equilibria of the Al-Fe-Mn and Fe-Mn-Si systems is reviewed. An experimental liquidus projection is given for the Al corner of the AI-Fe-Mn system; otherwise few data are available. The data for the liquidus of the Fe-Mn-Si system are more extensive and give a projection showing isothermal contours. However, the nature of the liquid-solid equilibria is still conjectural and the scheme for the phase relations in the projection of the Fe-Mn-Si system is largely hypothetical. Solid-phase equilibria in each system are presented in terms of a series of isotherms. It is shown that in both systems the equilibria are complex but the experimental data are insufficient for a complete description in either system. Evidence for a ternary phase is given for the Fe-Mn-Si system.
