Abstract
The policy changes advocated by the anthor are a reduction of farm subsidies and an intensification of agricultural research. Farming practices in the developed and less-developed countries (LDC) are compared, and plant genetics, existing agricultural research, farm investments and farm competition are considered. Farmland values and resource allocation are discussed, and more competition is urged.
