Does Ceratodon purpureus (Hedw.) Brid. have tubers?

Pages 177-184 | Published online: 18 Jul 2013

Abstract

Evidence is presented contradicting claims that tubers occur on the rhizoids of Ceratodon purpureus (Hedw.) Brid. These claims are believed to have arisen through confusion with other plants, particularly Dicranella staphylina Whiteh., Barbula arcuata Griff. and Ditrichum pusillum (Hedw.) Britt. An account is given of the tubers of B. arcuata.
