The use of axillary hairs in the taxonomy of two neotropical Bartramiaceae

Pages 61-65 | Published online: 18 Jul 2013

Abstract

Through an examination of axillary hairs, Mitten's transfer of Phascum jamesoni to Bartramia as B. humilis is supported, and the combination of Conostomum jamesoni (Tayl.) Steere is reduced to synonymy under Mitten's species. Based on axillary hair morphology, Bartramia rosea Herzog is considered to be a synonym of Anacolia laevisphaera (TayI.) Flows.
