Abstract
Marchantia polymorpha L. is lectotypified by means of a Dillenian illustration. Three subspecies are described, subsp. polymorpha, subsp. ruderalis, and subsp. montivagans, based on morphological, ecological and electrophoretic characters. These subspecies correspond roughly to the three previously recognized subdivisions of the species.
