Schistidium occidentale from the Sierra Nevada (Spain), new to the European bryophyte flora

Abstract

Schistidium occidentale (E. Lawton) Churchill is reported for the first time in Europe, from the Sierra Nevada (Spain). Previously it was known only from the mountains of southwestern North America. The species is illustrated, and notes are given on its distribution and ecology.
