The Defences of Tell as-Saba (Beersheba): a Stratigraphic Analysis

Abstract

The excavators of Beersheba put a trench through the defences and published a section-drawing with analysis of the stratigraphy. The writer has re-analysed the section-drawing and argues that the stratigraphy is more complex and the defences more sophisticated than originally thought, with implications for Iron Age military architecture throughout the Levant.
