Abstract
The abrasion properties of alkyd- and acrylic-based polymer-ceramic hybrid coating on chemically functionalized wood plates are reported. The abrasion resistance depends strongly on the type of polymeric resin, however can be improved by the addition of ceramic nano-particles; a good link with the substrate is also required. In this work, two different polyurethane resins (alkyd and acrylic) modified with silica nano-particles, were applied on chemically modified wood plates and the abrasion properties determined. The abrasion resistance was improved when the amount of ceramic particles was increased. SEM micrographs are shown.
