The Effect of Plastic Deformation on the Martensite–Austenite Transformation in Two Fe–Ni–C Alloys

Abstract

Metallographic observations and measurements of electrical resistivity have shown that the transformation martensite → austenite on heating is progressively retarded by prior deformation of the martensite. At the heating rates used, the transformation is not martensitic but may occur by inward displacement of parts of the existing austenite/martensite interfaces.
