Capillarity Effect at an α/β Brass Interface

Abstract

Recently, Purdy has properly emphasized the importance of non-ideality of the solid solutions in calculating the influence of interface curvature on the β → α phase transformation in brass. Particularly important is his result that a linear relationship exists between the interface concentration in β phase and the interface curvature.
