THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COMPACTIBILITY AND SHRINKAGE RATE IN THE ACTIVATED SINTERING OF NICKEL-DOPED TUNGSTEN

Abstract

The relationship between compactibility and shrinkage rate in nickel-doped tungsten compacts has been investigated. The shrinkage rate varied with the compactibility of the specimen. In the intermediate stage of sintering the shrinkage rate increased with green density. Therefore, compaction pressure must be considered as a separate parameter in any such study of sintering. A possible explanation of the mechanism of the sintering behaviour is discussed.
