Abstract
The application of gas-pressure bonding to the consolidation of metal and ceramic powders appears to be a valuable addition to the normal procedures of hot pressing. Various types of apparatus have been considered to meet the design requirements of 10,000–15,000 lb/in2 maximum pressure at 1200–1500°C maximum temperature. A cold-walled autoclave was chosen as being the only type capable of satisfying the requirements. An apparatus was designed, built, and installed which was able to meet the specified conditions. Considerations of safety were kept actively in mind in drawing up the final design.
