Abstract
The new venture into innovative development and technology transfer at BNF Metals Technology Centre is aimed at providing an interface between university research and industrial application. The first programme, recently issued, is closely associated with the powder technology priority areas for research and development initiated by the Science and Engineering Research Council and the Department of trade and Industry which is encouraging mixed groups of academic, independent industrial, and Government research organizations to apply for SERC or DOT&I, even EEC, part-funding for worthwhile projects. Two workshops organized by the SERC Materials Processing Sub-Committee have been held, one dealing with hardmetals and the other with sintered engineering components [see p. 242], in particular liquid phase sintering.
