Factors Affecting Particle Size of Atomized Metal Powders

Pages 287-290 | Published online: 19 Jul 2013

Abstract

The influence on median particle size of alloy composition and superheat is discussed and data are presented for the Cu–Sn system and zinc. The influence of atomizing water pressure on atomized particle size is discussed with examples of zinc, nickel, and nickel alloys. The equation D = KP−n is found to be a useful correlation. Experimental data are given for particle size distributions obtained with very low water/metal ratios in bronze atomization. Particle size falls with increasing volume of atomizing fluid, as in the case of gas atomization. PM/0390
