Abstract
The major processes for the production of rapidly quenched particulate, and aspects related to their consolidation, are briefly reviewed and compared with respect to their efficacy in promoting microstructural and constitutional modifications for improved properties. The application of the technology is discussed for a range of selected materials, including aluminium, iron, nickel, and copper alloys and iron-rare earth magnetic alloys, and appropriate comparisons are drawn with spray formed and mechanically alloyed materials.
