Euro PM'95: ‘Advanced PM materials’

Euro PM'95: ‘Advanced PM materials’

Abstract

The 1995 European PM conference, the first in a new cycle run by EPMA, attracted more than 200 delegates from 28 countries to the International Convention Centre at Birmingham, writes Dr Joseph M. Capus. Although discussion of trends in advanced PM materials was the chief focus of the programme, significant attention was paid to advances in structural part fabrication as well as to injection moulding and spray forming. The overall success of the meeting seems to have justified the organisers' choice of a restricted range of topics within the PM discipline and the high quality of the presentations reflected the care taken by the co-chairmen, Professor Hans-Dieter Kunze of IFAM, Bremen and Dr Gerard Raisson of Tecphy, Imphy; in the selection of pet pers for the technical programme. Much interest was also aroused by the poster presentations, which were reviewed in a special presentation by Dr Olle Grinder. The conference, which took place on 23–25 October, was also the occasion for the presentation of the 1995 EPMA awards (see pp. 271–274) as well as The Institute of Materials' Ivor Jenkins Award, which this year wenfto Dr Gian-Filippo Bocchini of Höganäs Italia (see p. 263). A full review of the technical sessions appears below. Meanwhile, preparations are well in hand for next year's hard materials event in Stockholm.
