Bodycote Prize Winner: Techno-economic analysis of PM HIP processing

Pages 10-13 | Published online: 19 Jul 2013

Abstract

To improve the economic competitiveness of hipping relative to traditional forming processes, the major contributors to manufacturing costs must first be identified. Several technical cost models (TCMs) have been developed to identify cost drivers and track manufacturing costs. A comparative study has been made of hot isostatic pressing (hipping) and closed die forging for two large IN625 near net shape (NNS) valve bodies of differing complexity.
