Abstract
This EC funded project compared the arrangements for dealing with emergencies arising during transport of RAM by assessment of a questionnaire which was distributed to each of the member states of the EU. The responses to the questionnaire demonstrated that the arrangements for dealing with accidents involving transport of RAM are reasonably well developed in all member states that responded. Each member state has developed plans which reflect the perception of the consequences of the accident and the nature of the hazard that the accident poses. These plans have been tailored to fit within the overall administrative structure of the member states. Since each administrative structure is not identical in each member state the plans can vary significantly. Areas for consideration are perception of risks involved and media interest.
