Abstract
In July 2001 it was announced that the secretariat of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) planned to organise a Conference on the Safety of Transport of Radioactive Material and IAEA Member States welcomed the concept. The conference was hosted by the Austrian Government and co-sponsors with the IAEA were the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Universal Postal Union (UPU). Other intemational organisations which cooperated in the arrangements for the Conference were the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Intemational Organization for Standardization (ISO).
