Abstract
The Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), the Getty Foundation, ICCROM (the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property), and the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics (ICCM) have joined in a collaborative effort aimed at safeguarding the mosaic heritage of the Mediterranean. This collaboration – known as MOSAIKON – is a strategic effort to address priorities for the conservation and management of mosaics on archaeological sites and in museums. During the first five-year phase of the initiative, MOSAIKON will develop training and capacity building efforts, increase the dissemination of information on mosaics, and strengthen a professional network. A general overview of the full scope of MOSAIKON's activities was first presented at the ICCM conference in Palermo, Sicily in 2008. This paper elaborates on MOSAIKON's strategy for education and capacity building.
