Abstract
A new coating method has been developed, by which a chromium coating 10-40 μm in thickness can be obtained on a steel sheet. The technique used is CVD with metallic chromium and iron (III) chloride reagents. Coating time is 1-4h at temperatures of 840- 980°C. The diffusion coating obtained by this method is uniform and ductile, and has a good adherence to the base metal. The effect of steel composition on chromium diffusion is discussed.
