Abstract
The development of diffusion coating, also known as metallic cementation, in Japan is discussed and some recent trends identified. The aluminium diffusion coating process applied on an industrial basis in Japan, the Karoraizu process patented by Matsumoto in 1930, is quite distinct from the Calorizing process employed elsewhere.
