Forum on the Twentieth Anniversary of CHUS and CHR

Introduction

Pages 88-90 | Published online: 19 Jul 2013

Abstract

The idea of this forum was born in the dialogues among several members of the editorial board of CHR, including Chen Jian, Hanchao Lu and Wang Xi. There was an attempt, in 2007, to hold a special panel at an international conference of Chinese historians to reflect the creation and growth of the Chinese Historians in the United States (CHUS) and its journal, The Chinese Historical Review (CHR). But for various reasons, the conference did not materialize. But the idea did not disappear. At the end of last year, we shared our ideas with several people who were, in one way or another involved in the founding of the organization or the operation of the organization and its journal to reflect on the journeys of both and, in particular, on their own associations with both. Our intent was to see whether there was enough chemistry to generate a panel discussion. The response we received was overwhelming and extremely encouraging. We then decided to organize a workshop for this project.
